Does the name ring a bell?

Cristiano Ronaldo is among the best in the world of football.

But what got him there? Was he always one of the best footballers? Was he always rich and popular?

The answer is obvious. Cristiano did not get lucky, nor was he born with this title. To be Cristiano Ronaldo, you have to make the effort that he did.

Cristiano was born in a very poor family in Madeira, Portugal. He faced a lot of struggles in his early life. His father was a gardener and an alcoholic.

Unfortunately, his father had a liver failure and could not survive. His mother became the breadwinner of the family and worked as a cook and a cleaning lady.

Cristiano shared a room with his siblings and did not even have enough money to buy toys as a child. To cope with his difficulties, he made football his best friend, it used to keep him distracted and happy.

The purpose of telling his struggles is not to make the reader feel sympathy for him, instead it is to make the reader realize that no matter how tough life is, there is no one stopping them from being successful.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s journey started when he was 8. He began to play for his first club, Andorinha, where his father worked as an equipment manager.

His talent was obvious since an early age and his efforts were praiseworthy. At age 11, he was noticed by Sporting Club De Portugal, but they thought of him as too skinny and small. This made him conscious and he decided he will make more efforts and work harder than anyone else.

Cristiano used to sneak out of his dormitory at night to go workout and this showed good results as he got bigger and faster with time.

He was expelled from his school as a child and had to leave Madeira to join The Lisbon Academy.

Football may have given him a lot, but he got really distant from his home. This was a very difficult decision for him at the age of 11, however, little or big, every part of his life story contributed to make him the person he is today.

His career almost ended before it even began when he was just 15 years old. He was diagnosed with a heart condition which made his heart race even when he was resting.

He had to under-go a life changing surgery which went successful and allowed him to continue running and practicing peacefully.

Cristiano kept practicing to follow his dreams and eventually ended up signing a contract worth 15 million pounds in 2003.

He became a part of Manchester United and secured his future as a football star.

In 2009, he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid and became the most expensive footballer in history with a transfer worth 94 million euros.

After many wins and losses, his career with Real Madrid ended and he signed a four-year contract with Juventus. Ronaldo achieved 27 trophies in his career and scored about 700 goals.

Cristiano is the first player to win four European Golden Shoe Awards. He is the same kid who did not have enough money to buy toys as a child.

Today, he has a net worth of about $450 million. He is one of the richest athletes in the world and this has made him able to buy the finest things in the world, such as: The most beautiful supercars, Yachts and big houses.

He is also the owner of multiple businesses including a museum, hotels and clothing lines. He even has an airport named after him in Madeira, where he was born.

Even though money was not his first priority, his hard-work has acquired him a lotof wealth.

Cristiano achieved all this despite his tough childhood and failures in his career, and even a serious heart

He decided never to give up and work as hard as he can. Only constant efforts, extreme dedication and motivation can take someone to this point of success.

Cristiano mentioned that consistency is the most difficult thing to maintain on the path of success. The greatest people are never satisfied with themselves, a need for constant improvement is always there.

Cristiano Ronaldo was never happy with what he achieved, instead he always aimed for higher goals. For example, the time he won a ballon d’or, he told his friend that he wanted to win at least five.

“Dreams are not what you see in your sleep, dreams are things which do not let you sleep.” The point is that you have to make countless effort to achieve your dreams.

“Don’t let small obstacles be in the way of being victorious. Remember you are stronger than the challenges you face.”

As mentioned earlier, these obstacles are just temporary and you can easily face them if you believe in yourself.

“I’m proud to play for Real Madrid because I have fun; when you no longer have fun it’s a sign that it’s time to leave. For now, though, I’m happy here at the greatest club in the world.”

Cristiano says it is important to enjoy it while you work hard. If you get bored and tired you will not give in your 100%.

If you’re not enjoying it, it is a sign for you to work on something that you are truly passionate about.

“I am not a perfectionist, but I like to feel that things are done well. More important than that, I feel an endless need to learn, to improve, to evolve, not only to please the coach and the fans, but also to feel satisfied with myself.

It is my conviction that there are no limits to learning, and that it can never stop, no matter what our age.”

We can learn a lot from his quotes and try to adapt the same mentality. To improve, evolve and become the best version of yourself takes you towards success.

No matter what challenges you are faced with, you must always learn fight them. Hurdles, disappointments and failures are always good to deal with on your path to success.

If there weren’t any failures, you would not feel the need to improve. You would miss out on important lessons that failures have to teach you.

You come back stronger after facing them. Success will not chase you; you have to chase it and never stop! Even if you think you have acquired it, never stop improving and always set your next goals higher.

The key is to always believe in yourself and in the fact that YOU CAN. You can achieve anything if you believe that you can do it.

Cristiano Ronaldo could have given up when he was being sent so far away from his home as a child to practice in The Lisbon Academy, it was a difficult time for him but he decided to be stronger and believe in himself and just do it.

He could have also given up after he was diagnosed with a heart condition, but right after his surgery, he continued running and practicing football.

He could have also given up at many other difficult points of his life but he knew that these difficult times were just temporary and they were a part of his journey to success so he never lost hope in himself and always believed he can be the best football player.

All these factors contributed to make him the amazing athlete he is today!

“I see myself as the best footballer in the world. If you don’t believe you are the best, then you will never achieve all that you are capable of.” This quote of his tells you that you can only achieve your full potential if you truly believe in yourself.

You may have had an easier childhood than Cristiano, or may have not suffered from a serious heart disease.

Make use of this ‘privilege’ as it keeps you away from negativity and helps you focus even more when you work hard for your dreams. Even if you do struggle like the footballer did, or maybe even worse, remember it is not the end of the world.

No matter what happens, difficulties and hurdles are just temporary and a part of your journey to success. Do not let yourself down and come back even stronger to make yourself and your loved ones proud.

To be known as the greatest, you have to become the greatest!
